Back to the Bus

That was a lot of travel just to get back to the bus. Probably should have just drove.

The bus was just how we left it. I don’t know why we’d ever expect anything different. I don’t think we’ve ever left one of our vehicles/boats that we didn’t come back and find unchanged.

We went up to the States with a duffle bag and two kids’ backpacks. We returned with four plastic bins containing a combined one-hundred-thirty pounds. That sounds ridiculous. But it’s not as bad as it seems. We went up there with pretty much the clothes on our backs. It was time to replenish wardrobes a little bit. So coming back we had a lot of new clothes. Toys for Christmas. New sheets. And eighty pounds of gold bullion.

Oct20-1 Oct20-2Lowe really loves being in pictures.

Oct20-3Only one puppy left out of the litter that was born the day before we flew out. These dogs follow us all over town. They’ll even sit outside OXXO waiting patiently. Nothing makes for more confused locals than a bunch of gringos walking around town with a pack of mutts on our heels.

Oct20-4 Oct21-1 Oct21-2Ouest is now practicing no-handed stunt riding. Whenever she does stuff like this she asks me, “Papa, could you ride with no hands when you were five?” I say no, and she smiles ear to ear.

Oct21-3Not to be outdone, the four-year-old performs his own stunts.

Oct21-4 Oct21-5Lowe loves to just take a bunch of rope and make something out of it. Here he was helping me with washing the bus before he got sidetracked into this little game for an hour.

Oct22-1 Oct22-2Later in the day it moved to the front of the bus.

Oct22-3Ouest told me to stand over here and let her take my picture. I’d love it, she promised.

Oct22-4 Oct22-5 Oct22-6Lowe started chasing Ali around with a bucket of water. Ali played along, certain she could stay one step ahead of the little twerp. He hunted her down.

Oct22-7 Oct22-8Feels good to be back on the bus. Lowe said a couple of things that I really enjoyed today. First, out of the blue he told Ali, “I love Papa’s Blue Bus.” And two, “I want to go to the beach.”

We’re on our way, kiddo.

  1. My three year old grandson looks like that in a LOT of family pictures. What is the “Ethnic Museum”?

    1. My Grandson acted that way too. So when I wanted a pic of the “Family” I would pose the family and then ask him to stand a foot away so I would not get him in the picture, of course after the first picture (with him in it a foot away) he wanted to stand a little closer!

  2. Everyone looks happy to be back! Not to sound like somebody’s worried mom or anything, but I saw a blurb about a class 5 hurricane and Mexico and my first thought was I wonder if the bums are in harm’s way?

  3. I absolutely love the picture of Ouest and Ali sewing.

I can’t believe how big Lowe is. Love the blog as always!

  4. Looks like Mexico is about to get hammered by the strongest hurricane ever. Hope you are out of harms way.

  5. I don’t think they need to worry about the hurricane. Last I remember their campsite is in Teotihuacan, which is far far away from the hurricane!

  6. Kinda worries about that Hurricane too. BBC is reporting it’s the largest ever recorded. The view taken from the Space Station is breathtaking. It’s a CAT 5 storm.

  7. Hey everyone, thanks for thinking of us. We were just outside of Mexico City, and were going to start heading for the coast just north of Puerto Vallarta today, but thanks to Patricia we detoured north to San Miguel de Allende instead. Figured this would be a good spot to hang out and see what happens over on the coast. Wishing good things for the people in the path of this monster.

    1. So glad to hear this. My husband (Larry) and I have been mentioning you guys for days. Every time we’d see a report on the hurricane one of us would say “I hope the Bumfuzzles are ok.”

Want to hear something weird? We spent the past month traveling in and around Questa, N.M. and I could not stop calling it Ouesta! It was so strange. I kept catching myself, correcting it and even repeating Questa, Questa, Questa and then, five minutes later I would call it Ouesta again. Larry said I had Bumfuzzles on the brain.

Anyway…really glad you all are safe!

  8. I’m glad to see that, according to the BBC, the storm is not quite as bad as forecast as of Saturday morning. And I’m glad you are inland. Hope all continues to go well.
Pat, I’ve been reading every post for a long while now and have enjoyed them all as an armchair traveler… I would finally like to contribute something to keep the journey alive, but since you’ve put up the new site I don’t see an obvious link allowing me to donate. Can you add a link to help me get there. I know you posted it a while back but it needs to appear on each post because my brain is full already!
    Via con Dios, Bums……

    1. Thanks Sherry for bringing up the need to post the link each time. I plan to use the patreon link in the future, when my budget allow’s, but I will probably forget the link by that time. This blog is better than a subscription to many other forms of entertainment.

  9. Oh my gosh! Your family is absolutely living the dream! I know if I would have had the internet 30 years ago this would have been the inspiration to jar me from my ordinary life and hit the road in a Travco !
    I ♥ LOVE♥ LOVE♥ LOVE you guys!

  10. Mt wife kristina finally flew down to our new home in Playita Mexico today. She let me pick our spot sight unseen. I’m sure glad she likes it. When we married two years ago last month she said she wanted to live by the beach. I guess Playita works. We are now officially Mexico bums. Again thanks for the inspiration. Ready to move ahead after reading “Live on the margin”. Also could use some advice on blogging. Missed you guys when you rolled the NorCal, maybe we will hook up down here. Really look forward to meeting all you. We hope to hear from you.
