Cousins

We could spend weeks in Seattle and not have enough time to see all our friends. Cruisers and Overlanders alike seem to congregate up here.

Oct10-1We did get to spend a few hours with our friends from Drive Nacho. Shacked up, pregnant, but still scheming towards their next adventure. Love these two.

This cat (and the cat’s toy laser) kept our kids busy for two solid hours. Two consecutive hours of adult conversation. Amazing. I’m thinking that in the future I may just stop by the pet store and buy all of our friends a cat before visiting. Surprise! Now go play, kids.

Oct10-2 Oct10-3Standing in the rain together we had Lowe take a group photo. He started up over our heads and just kept clicking until he got to this point. Pretty good.

Oct10-4We left with an hour to go before the ferry across to Bremerton. So of course we turned onto the road only to find that the entire road was shut down both ways. In Seattle, with all of the water, and no map, that could present a problem. But using my superior navigation skills I was able to pull up to the ferry dock and load up as the last one on.

Oct10-5The view off the back of the boat. The view from the front was a wall of white storm.

Oct10-6Screaming into the wind at the bow.

Oct10-7The view out my cousin’s back door is about the only way you could get me to settle down happily in a home with a cement foundation.

Oct10-8 Oct10-9Happy faces as WSU beats Oregon.

Oct10-10Four of the best cousins our kids could ask for.

Oct10-11 Oct10-12I’ve been taking pictures between these two for a long time.

Everything started out fine—running, laughing, holding hands. Then we reached the rope that you could use to climb down alongside the waterfall. Suddenly Ouest began screaming hysterically. She was up at the front of the pack holding Uncle David’s hand. Nobody knew it at the time but he had just been stung twice by yellow jackets. At the same time Ouest got stung in the hand, but David didn’t know that, he just thought she was panicking because he got stung. Then everybody else saw the wasps and started scrambling back up the path. Meanwhile, another of the girls got stung and started her screaming. The woods had erupted with shrieks, and sobbing. We were all pretty certain we were going to die in there.

Nobody did.

  1. Nice guys! The new site is very spiffy. Great to see Brad & Sheena are doing “very” well!! Tell them we have got both their books and have enjoyed them immensely!

  2. I’m a little worried about how many postcards you’re going to have to send… but super excited to see you may be boat-bound again soon! Love everything you share, and I think it absolutely counts as art 🙂

    1. Thank you, Leah. You’re awesome. Five or ten years from now I suspect we’ll bump into each other again in some Caribbean anchorage.

  3. Great job with the new format! What’s with that #12 shirt, though?? NICE place your cousin has!! 😀

    1. Well, considering one of my cousins works pretty high up in the Seahawks organization, it’s sort of required gear at all times around there.

  4. The new website looks great. The photo of Ouest and Lowe on the beach, with Ali sitting in the dock in the background; at first glance the dock looked like a picnic table with a pair of tiny chairs and a tiny little Ali sitting on it. Took me a second. Looking forward to hearing about your next adventure. A different continent, eh? Intriguing. If you guys ever get to Bisbee, AZ, stop by. That’s where we’ve swallowed the anchor.

    1. That has to be one of the few border crossings we haven’t made yet. Next time we come north we’re stopping in to see you guys. Congrats on finding a place to call home again!

  5. Love the look you did to your website. I looking at your awesome photos and all of a sudden I say to myself” Hey I think they are in my neighborhood”! I look out at the same stuff.

  6. Hi! I just started Live on the Margin. Good old Aunt Edna. I think the book really makes sense to me not just because it’s well-explained (which it is) but also because I’ve been reading your work for awhile and respect your thought process. So I don’t panic at all this triple top candlestick malarkey. I am having trouble w the patreon site, but I’ll try it again later. Thanks!

  7. I see there might be more sailing in the future, maybe a boat cat is in order? Think of all the adult time you and Ali will have to yourselves! As an owner of a boat cat, I can tell you they pretty much take care of themselves. Just a little food and water every day.
I have another idea for your patron grouping….photography and photoshop lessons! You can divide it up between that and being a trading mentor. 🙂
