The morning after Halloween tradition—counting and categorizing the candy haul.
We replaced the kids’ mattresses with new memory foam. Basically the same things we’ve used on everything from the boat to the Airstream over the past few years. This was the first time we actually bought an electric knife, though. Wow, did that ever make quick clean work out of that job. I’ve always used a basic utility knife in the past, which was just a huge choppy mess. I always knew about the electric knife hack, but for whatever reason, just hadn’t used it.
This bus is just chock full of huge heaters. This one was engine driven heat that took up the entirety of the space underneath a kitchen table seat next to the door. Space that we can definitely put to better use than heating us up while we are driving. The kids’ scooter came in as a handy transporter for that thing.
Making a puppet show movie. Lately they’ve really gotten into making stop-motion videos with Legos, too.
Out of Florida and into Alabama.
Gulf State Park is absolutely massive. 500 RV spaces. Yet, again, it was booked right through every weekend, meaning we could only hang out for a couple of weekdays.
Which was too bad, because the miles long beach was pretty, and empty.
We managed to get a couple small projects checked off the list. Cracked window got replaced. We’ve got new glass for all of the big bus windows, but those will have to wait until we stop for a few days again.
Replaced the broken hardware on the canopy slides. Now we can actually use it.
And managed to give the canopy a good scrubbing. Simple Green cleaned off years worth of grime.
When we left there we drove down the road to Fort Morgan. We had planned to hop on the ferry there and take that across to Dauphin Island, but when we got there we were told that max length today, because of the windy weather, was a few feet shorter than us.
When you’re on the road, what’s better than an order of double hash with everything at Waffle House?
Followed by some barbeque for dinner.
We settled in at Meaher State Park for a few days. We’d been here in the past and really liked it. Quiet spot just across the bridge from Mobile. Has the best sunsets anywhere.
The kids’ room is getting nearer completion. Eventually new flooring and ceiling will go in, but not until the rest of the bus is ready for them.

Currently I’m on the couch behind the driver’s seat, and Pat is on left over cushions on the floor. Hoping to work on a new set up soon.
I know it’s difficult in the South this time of year, but have you always been able to find campsites/RV parks on weekends? We’re about to head out on our own ‘voyage’ aboard our RV and wonder how you’re managing on the crowded Gulf Coast.
All you can do is try and plan a few weeks out in advance, and be prepared to move campsites a few times. Most RV Parks (not State Parks, or National Parks) which we don’t like staying in, will have a spot open. It’s usually a good time to get the laundry done, or on long driving days – as they don’t offer much to do. It’s all about the planning – which can be a huge pain, especially if you really like a place or find another place that you would like to see. Remember to have fun and it usually works out.
Well, that was a cliff-hanger. Never saw the canopy rolled out! 😁

That style of fort was used for much of the Civil War. If you are ever in Key West again, the tour out to the Dry Tortugas is great.

The broken down pier at the park is the result of Hurricane Sally, 2020, which the State hasn’t gotten around to fixing. Sorry about the cold weather as we have had a cooler than normal Fall. E-mail me if I can help while you are in Mobile, Robbie
