Water-bound

Looking at pictures from the last couple of weeks it really hits me how little time we spend ashore these days. St. Croix on land would be a lot more fun without COVID, but with the way things are right now we pretty much stick to groceries, laundry, and take-out as our “thrilling” trips ashore. Since most of that stuff involves carrying large loads for long distances, those jobs have been relegated to me. Ali laughs about how little she gets off the boat. We sometimes can’t remember when her last trip off the water was. You might think we care, but 99% of the time we’re all perfectly content and happy just to be floating out here—our own island.

We love tugs. This beauty is screaming for a makeover.

There are always those Christmas presents that you think will be great, but then sit in the closet and never get used. The sea scooters are not one of those. They get daily use. The only limit to how much they are used is how often we can recharge the batteries.

They like “walking” on the bottom with them.

And Lowe likes leaving trails of dust.

I found this beautiful shell last week while swimming around without the camera. Today Lowe spotted it again. Easily the coolest looking conch shell I’ve ever seen. Purple, dark violet, zebra stripes, and smoother than anything man-made.

Not that there’s anything wrong with the typical pink conch shell.

    1. This boat is perfect for the Great Loop – we have thought we might, but then COVID and so many closures to the attractions we would want to see. Still deciding to head north or south this season…the south is currently winning.

  1. I think the conch shell is a Queen Conch. I found one about 40 years ago when I was sailing in the Bahamas. Still have on a mantle.

    1. Awesome! Totally understand keeping one that was found by myself, it’s the ones that people buy in shops that make me wonder.

    1. My Wanderer Financial group has been having fun watching the goings on with GME and the WSB Reddit crowd, but that’s not our style at all. Fortunes will be made, and fortunes will be lost, but that sort of trading just isn’t what we do. I did write up a quick piece on the options angle yesterday before things really got out of hand, though: https://wandererfinancial.com/whats-going-on-with-gme/

      Frankly, I wish them luck. I wouldn’t mind at all if the WSB crew was able to effect some serious damage to funds, and create some positive changes in the markets. I have my serious doubts that they will be able to. I posted a long answer as to why I think this over on my Facebook page today in answer to another question.

  2. Pat;
    Thanks for replying about your other life – grin…am going to send an email. Whatever you folks do, thanks for letting us peek. If you ever make it to Virginia – the Hampton Air Space museum is right on the water – and where the Hidden Figure ladies lived and worked.
