At about the halfway point of any walk, Za gets hot and tired and just plants her belly on the sidewalk or any nearby patch of dirt, regardless of what you may want. This time she happened to stop under her family portrait.
I’ve mentioned that the museum scene in San Miguel is pretty solid. There’s always something new going on. The city is also great about letting you know about them, with posters all over the place and events calendar billboards set up all around town. It’s a nice little side bonus to life here.
Dia de los Muertos is right around the corner and businesses are all participating in dressing up. Marigolds in particular are the surest sign of the season.
I was stoked to get a message from a long lost friend the other day saying he was coming to town and that he had never been to Mexico. My mind was blown. Matt and I stood shoulder-to-shoulder in the soybean pits of Chicago back in the day. I left, did a bit of traveling, and transitioned to trading stocks online. He hung around the pits to the bitter end, left for Miami, and still trades beans for a living. I guess it’s true, you can’t teach old dogs new tricks.
Could have taken them out for a fancy dinner, but figured Miami has enough of that. Time for some plastic chairs and tacos instead.
Face painting booths lined the streets leading up to the plaza, and the mood was festive, but we were still a day away.

I have been following you for years and while I rarely comment, your site is always the first one I check for new posts. Your photos are gorgeous and your family is, too. Love Za’s family portrait! What a good life you have made for yourselves. Thank you for sharing.
Agree in full, Linda!
