Lowell

Bisbee is a nice little artsy town way up at 5,500′ elevation in southern Arizona. We always tend to think of Arizona as desert, but forget how crazy the elevation changes can be. It’s cold up here, but nice and sunny.

Bisbee

The campground in Bisbee is right across the road from the center of the old mining town, and sits right on the Queen mine. The tour of the mine was really good.

Definitely looks like fall here.

Longtime Bum friends. We’ve crossed paths more times, and in more places, than I can count.

The kids always seem to end up with a new guitar/gun/camera strap when we see them.

Down the hill a mile, alongside the massive Sacramento Pit, is Lowell. I assume at one time there were a number of small mining camp/towns right in the area. Now I’d sort of consider them different neighborhoods of Bisbee. Lowell is unique because someone thought to actually make the old main street interesting again by making it seem as if you’d stepped back in time. It really doesn’t take much other than sprucing up a few vintage signs and parking some cool old cars and trucks along the street. Nice spot to have breakfast before hitting the road again.

  1. Your posts make me so happy for you guys–they make me smile and laugh sometimes too because I think it’s just great. Looks like times full of joy. Love how Lowe finds interest in old things too. Living your best life . . . always. Thanks for sharing.

  2. What I like about your posts, Pat and Ali, is that you stay away from politics. You stick to the important things like your kids and enjoying all that life has to offer. Please don’t ever change.

    1. Maureen, please forgive the intrusion but, being a Bisbee resident I feel qualified to answer. The mine tour was of the underground copper mine. Turquoise tends to be found in deposits in the same area as copper so it’s sort of a by-product of copper mining rather than the actual purpose of the mine. Hope that helps.

  3. I was over in Cochise AZ for all of January in 2019. Never did make it down to Bisbee but wanted to as it’s a neat place. Did make it to Tombstone, Kartchner Cavern and several hiking trails in the area. Safe travels and Happy New Year!
