Around Taxco

There isn’t a ton to do in Taxco other than walk around and soak in the atmosphere and the views. It’s an old silver mining town turned silversmithing town, so nearly every business is selling silver earrings and every street hawker is selling silver bracelets. We are decidedly not in the silver market ourselves.

I wish I had a picture of myself at twenty-four working as a clerk on the floor of the Minneapolis Grain Exchange. Working two phones, taking an order from one and giving out quotes to the other.

“Mama, what do you have for me to snack on?” I can absolutely guarantee that those are the words that were spoken five seconds before I took this picture.

We took the Teleferíco (cable car) up Mount Taxco for another cool view of the city. The kids were as stoked as if we were on a rollercoaster. It was fun, but at the top you get dropped off and have to walk through a parking lot and a hotel to get to the hotel pool area in order to have any view of Taxco down below. Kind of weird being brought up a mountain and not being brought to a lookout of some sort. We turned right around and rode back down. Lowe asked repeatedly if we could go again, like it was a cheap ride at the fair.

  1. Are you kidding me? You’re in Taxco and you’re not going to buy Ali a silver bracelet? Or earrings? They do some beautiful work (or at least they used to).

      1. Okay I am an old lady! Ouest, 20 years from now, would love to have at least a small silver charm on a silver chain from her visit to Taxco when she was a child. I know you are not materialist people and do not collect things but as an old gramma, I think little things like this are important. This is especially true in our changing world. You have kept your Porsche. Some things can make special memories. You will probably keep one of Lowe’s VW cars. Of course, your pictures will always be special to your whole family.
