I imagine Brighton Beach is a gloomy cold place in the winter. Sure is enjoyable when the sun is shining, though.
Sometimes you can see France, sometimes not.
This unexpected palace is right down the street from the beach in the center of the town. A royal palace built in about 1800, it served as the seaside getaway for a couple of kings. But all of this grandiosity for Brighton was short-lived. In 1841 the railway extended a line from London and opened the town up to everyday folk. Just four years later Queen Victoria announced, “the people here are very indiscreet and troublesome.” And that was the end of it. It’s now a nice museum, but we didn’t visit.

The kids and I had a nice, cold swim out here. It’d been a while since we’d found ourselves in saltwater.
After a couple days of “taking the air” in Brighton, we hit the road with Grammy again. Along the drive we stopped at Arundel Castle and I once again enjoyed the perks of traveling with Grammy.
This place was beautiful. I was blown away by the fact that The Duke of Norfolk’s family line has held and lived at Arundel Castle for nearly 900 years. They are up to the 18th Duke today. The place is huge, though, so they share the place with the rest of us while living in a different wing.

We drove to the town of Salisbury where we’d spend the night before making a run at Stonehenge the next morning.
Found some surprisingly delicious tacos here in Salisbury, though I did the math and figured out that each BITE cost $3.00. It’s not just the history and beauty of England that will make you cry.
Still hungry, but relieved of the weight of many British Pounds in my pocket, we walked down to the Salisbury Cathedral. The cathedral had the tallest spire in England and also holds an original copy of the Magna Carta. Unfortunately, it was closed by the time we got there, but it didn’t matter, we really enjoyed just sitting in the grass out front and admiring the place. It was also a beautiful evening.
