A City Day Hike

Another day exploring the city. We got dropped off across town at a cathedral and just proceeded to walk the streets from there—hanging out in plazas, eating mango and watermelon from the street vendors, grabbing a ridiculously large lunch consisting of piles of steak and chorizo, and walking some more.

Morning marching band practice.

Peace, Love, Tomato Pie. I felt compelled to google that, and now I’m hungry.

For some reason our family doesn’t know what to do with their hands when taking a family photo. You’d think we’d have this on lock by now.

Ali and I could just sit in this plaza all day people watching.

Justicia por genocidio. Sad reminders all over the city of the still recent injustices.

I was surprised to find that I was able to fly the drone here in the city (the app won’t work in a do not fly zone). We have planes going right over our head on their final approach into Guatemala City. You can see the runway just a few blocks away in the pictures below. I put the whole family on airplane watch while I zipped around, and kept from going too high.

One thing you notice right away when walking around the city are all the trees. We can go on long walks and be comfortable in the shade almost the whole time. There are also miles-long boulevards with traffic separated by wide green park spaces and paved bike trails. All in all, it’s a pretty pleasant place to wander.

That’s us standing on the little grassy patch on the roof of the white building, our Zona 4 home.

    Where’s Waldo (Bumfuzzle)?

  2. Great photos, as always – fun to see all the neighborhoods and regular folks in the places you visit. Guatemala has been especially interesting, both the country and the city.

  3. You always have great pictures! Maybe you should publish some of them? I lave the one with the little girl in her hull, and the one with the wood entrance and patio in the background.
