Columbia County Fair

We said goodbye to Grammy today, after almost a month. We always seem to stay a month with her. Part of it is because we love her, and part of it is because we love Portland. Portland summers anyway. And while we all love Grammy, it wasn’t her name we were hearing this afternoon. “I miss Bridget.” Stupid dog.

Look who got a haircut. She saw a picture of herself when she had hair at her shoulders and that was all it took, she wanted a haircut.

The Columbia County Fair. I don’t know how Ali found this, but we figured it would make a great first-day-back-on-the-road treat for the kids. Small town fairs are the best. 4H kids are too adorable sitting in barns next to cows and rabbits all day, trying to win a trophy for a pig that they’ll be sending off to slaughter in just a few more.

I saw the guy running the slide holding a can of PB Blaster penetrating oil and had to ask, “Is that what you’re lubing up the slide with.”

“Twice a day.”

“I bet it’s faster than hell after you shoot that on it,” I said.

“Man, I have to go down the slide over and over until it’s finally safe for the kids again. It’s crazy fast the first couple times.”

I told him about Ali going down one of these slides right after the guy had wiped it down with Armor All.

“See, that’s why I gotta go down a bunch of times first. Armor All, huh?”
