Days Gone

Okay, seriously this time, the davits are done. Done done. The guys came by today to add a couple more hooks and a cleat on each one, as well as clean up the caulk. They are done and they are awesome. Even Ali likes them and she was not into this project at all. I hauled the dinghy up with the motor on and the davits do everything I wanted them to do. Meaning basically that they hold the dinghy nice and tight and there is absolutely no movement side to side, back and forth, or any other direction that dinghies tend to swing in while at sea on a monohull.

A couple people asked why the davits are so high. I don’t really think they are. They are right in line with the bimini and dodger. But, really, putting them higher was the number one thing on the list as the entire reason the last davits failed so miserably was because the dinghy was getting hit by following waves when we rolled downwind. This time I wanted everything up and out of the way, and I wanted to be able to leave the motor on so I won’t have to hem and haw over whether or not it is worth it to go through the hassle of putting the dinghy in the water when we get to a new anchorage. Now it’s all easy.

Discovered that our compressor is indeed dead. Got a lot of e-mails telling me this and also telling me to just buy a new one. This is where I feel like saying, “Duh, if I were in the States I would have done this weeks ago.” Here in Mexico things aren’t always that easy. In fact they are never that easy. Brand new compressor in the States, about three hundred bucks. Rebuilt compressor in Mexico that needs some modifications in order to work, four hundred and fifty bucks. And no, you can’t just order stuff from the U.S. and have it shipped here. It’s just not that easy. You do that and it disappears into the bowels of Customs in Guadalajara. Anyway, this project may be put on hold until another family member or friend is coming to PV.

Spent a couple hours at the pool today, another couple hours hanging out around the boat, and it’s suddenly ten o’clock at night. I don’t know where the days go any longer.

Lowe is teething again. Tooth number four appears to be just a day or two from breaking through. He struggled today though.
