Dia de Muertos

Nobody who owns a boat ever comes back from a trip to the States empty handed. We basically doubled our entire possessions with this trip.

Fancy new bread maker. This thing is an instant hit. Out of all the loaves that have been made so far, I doubt I’ve managed to get four pieces. Bunch of kids were over the other day when a loaf came out. When I went inside ten minutes later there was nothing but spilled rasberry jam, Nutella, and a tiny corner piece of bread laying on the counter because they all felt too bad to take the last piece.

Evening surf session with friends, even if there are no waves.

Dia de muertos was a little special this year as the city of Puerto Vallarta officially gained the Guiness World Record Title for largest Catrina.

We got downtown early, walked the malecón to see all the different catrinas, had a good lunch, grabbed some snacks and drinks, and secured ourselves a spot on the sidewalk. Time for another parade.

Even some of the horses got make-up.

Big crowds and a big holiday, yet it was just a super family-friendly event. Tons of nice people, everyone happy, good food.

Time to eat again.

The best we could do.

Somehow, we found a taxi despite the huge crowd. Great day, followed by a tired night. We love Mexico.

  1. Bread maker….good choice…We’ve gone thru 3 of them….Weight goes up bread maker goes out….can’t be helped…lol….

  2. Exemplary photography! But more than that, watching those children grow into twins and then young adults. With a cruisers perspective of the world and their place in it! What a wonderful gift you have given them!

  3. Pat, we just missed you. We were there on a cruise two days before you. So much fun.☘️

  4. Thanks for blog — wonderful photos of an amazing event. How is the new boat? How do the kids like their new accommodations? Does the catamaran feel much more spacious than the Grand Banks? Any unexpected problems?

  5. I LOVE my breadmaker. We try not to eat as much bread as we used to; but I do make bread whenever we have company and for all the holidays. I will share a recipe on your Facebook page Ali. It is a recipe for egg bread, (challah). I mix it up in the breadmaker as dough; then braid it into some tasty bread. Your pictures of the warm weather in Mexico make me want to take a winter trip to escape Michigan!

  6. I’ve heard of “Dia de Muerto (Day of the Dead)”. I’ve always loved the colours and festivities that go along with the holiday. Unless I’m mistaken, they remember the dead, while celebrating the living. Is that what “Day of the Dead” is about? 🙂
