You knew it was only a matter of time. Despite my misgivings, there was no way that there wouldn’t be a rescue living in this house. I fought the good fight for many years, but in the end we all knew I didn’t stand a chance.
Zazu (name came along with her and stuck, mostly as Za) was rounded up off the street and brought in to one of the big free spay and neutering clinics that are donated every now and then in town. Usually the volunteers fix the dogs and then simply return them to the area where they found them (you can’t save them all, and there just aren’t enough homes or shelter space), but someone decided that Zazu had too sweet a temperament and decided to take her home as a foster dog. That was back in December. Fast forward four months and, though she might not know it yet, the dog just won the lottery.
It’s always this way isn’t it? They know which person needs to be won over.
A couple of days later I picked up a little “running around town” bike. You gotta strike while the iron is hot. San Miguel seems custom made for zipping around on a bike.
Still shopping for furniture pretty much every day. Never know what sort of gems you might find.
Installing a little water filtration system.
See how handy this is?
I showed this picture to my Wanderer Financial group and immediately the question on our minds was, “I wonder what that tow hitch (and the cutout in the decklid) is for?” My guess was a taco cart, but it turns out there was a hint on the back window—the paw sticker. A few days later I’d see the bug cruising down the road towing a rather large mobile dog washing trailer.
This place is amazing. For those days where you just don’t feel like having tacos al pastor again, you switch it up and head for the carnitas instead.
I love the mural covered homes, but the crumbly classics are still my favorites.
Off on the mirador on the highway up above town.
Za is a digger. One day she unearthed this. I’m guessing it was put there by the previous owner, or maybe a more recent building contractor. Our neighborhood (colonia) is San Antonio, named after San Antonio de Padua. When I went to learn more about this Saint I found the story of one of his miracles, in which he basically couldn’t get anyone in the village to listen to his preaching, so he went to the lake to preach to the fish instead. The fish gathered in huge numbers before him. Of course my mind at this point goes straight to the pocketful of bread crumbs he probably had in that robe, but the villagers saw it differently. This was a miracle. So… okay. Whatever. I’m not here to judge. Hopefully San Antonio will continue to look over us despite my pessimism.

Startled by both the Botero and the nose stud. Also, a bike posed with a refrigerator.
Prepare to be unstartled. We didn’t buy the Botero. The nose stud is two or three years old at this point. And the refrigerator was just waiting to be hauled away when the new one arrived.
Congratulations on the new family member!
🙂 Love the little bike. Here’s the Honda marketing for your new bike. “The Honda CGL 125 goes, itstops, it goes again the next day – simple as that.” 🙂
We have managed to resist adopting for years now but we have done a few house sits for dog care and hosted many for friends who are out of town. We always enjoy the temporary dog lifestyle where we get to go for daily walks with them. We also have a group of four nearby we call the misfit dog pack, two are preposterously silly looking breed mixes, one with one eye, they’re all kind of misshapen and chubby. We go by and holler ‘hola perros’ and they all run out to go walking with us, they are so delighted for the attention and a walk. What I have learned is when you show a dog a good time they pretty much forget all about their owners, they are wise enough to accept the love from whomever is offering.
Way to go Ouest on all your wins!! Za landed on their feet….having a new family like you guys…..Glad you are all settling in great….Take care!!
LOVE it all! Best wishes to all of you (including Za).
Reminds of my dog, Ponchito !
Welcome to the bright side
Great photo of you & your “helper” installing the water filter! 🙂
That pup lucked out! Love all your photos, enjoying the vicarious visits to SMA!
Za is absolutely adorable. And Ouest looks unbelievably happy. Good on ya!
Good grief! I’ve been gone for a while, quite a while it seems, but for some reason I’ve been thinking about your family lately. Today I checked into your website and you’re living in a house! I have to go backwards now to figure out how this happened and where you are! You all look great, and the kids are gorgeous. There’s nothing like a dog in the house to make it a home.
