Howdy Pilgrim

It’s starting to feel as if about every fourth day of school requires some sort of new outfit. Today Ouest was to dress up in the United States’ traditional dress and bring a flag. Apparently this was for Flag Day, or Parade of Flags, or some such thing.

Quick, what is the United States of America’s national dress? Right, we don’t have one, because we are a melting pot of about a million different national dresses. So basically we could either dress her up as the Washington Redskins mascot or a pilgrim. Because nothing says America like a good pilgrim about to slaughter an entire race.

I kid. Sort of. Anyway, point is we had to come up with a costume and a flag. Ali got online and before long had YouTube videos showing how to make each. And that’s how we spent our weekend. And this is the result.

  1. We just gotta chime in here… This mornings coffee was just great with this cute addition! Adorable in any outfit:-)

  2. Isn’t YouTube wonderful? From troubleshooting a washing machine to learning how to put on and take off a triathlon wetsuit, YouTube has it all.

  3. Shows you do not have to spend (waste) a lot of money to make a very cool costume. Great job! Way to represent your “parents” country Ouest.

  4. Still cute..but American costume = biker vest, jeans and some ink!!! 🙂 or a hippie dippie outfit????

  5. I went through the same thing at the environmental charter school my kids were in here in Pa! I had a weekend to make an authentic, completely P.C. native Pocahontas costume for my munchkin. Turns out that Pocahontas pretty positively would have been topless, so history had to be slightly altered. I took the curtains off of the wall and used them. I sewed on each individual cowrie shell. Parenting is full of surprises.

  6. You two win the best American Parents award for fast thinking and devotion to duty. Your award is two of the cutest Mexicans ever. Congratulations.

  7. You are killing me. That’s it! I am bowled over with adorable overload. That pilgrim outfit on her is as cute as they come. Period.

  8. Great re-do of the “black” clothes from the other day. See? Ouest DID need a black outfit. Might work somehow for Halloween, too? She is absolutely darling, and obviously so proud of her costume. Also a very clever, easy way to make a flag. 🙂

  9. Great job on the Pilgrim outfit. Cute as a bug! Guess I got the reason wrong for the black outfit, but still say she can use it in Hallow’s Eve. So great to see your young family enjoying life. That’s what it’s all about.

  10. I love it! Are there a lot of international kids at Oest’s school, or was it mostly her and a bunch of Mexico flags? Also, I’ve been wondering since I’ve been following you guys for a few weeks – are you guys on Bumfuzzle now? What’s the status of sailing? Thanks for sharing!
