Lake Atitlan

Settling in at our San Pedro house above Lake Atitlan for a few days. Tuk tuks and wandering around town for our first day while we get acquainted with our new surroundings.

Not a bad spot to get a little work done.

  1. I’ve been following you since I read your book Bumfuzzle a few years ago. We left California in our camper van 2 years ago and started driving South, currently in Peru!
Anyway, we stopped for a month in Atitlan – if you’re interested, I volunteered teaching English at the public school in San marcos, and also talked to the Director of the schools in a few of the other towns who were all interested in my helping them out. We stayed at pasaj cap which is between San Marcos and Tsununa so I decided to teach at San Marcos, even though the town is an obnoxious hippy gringo town haha!
There’s also a nifty little private school, Caracol, up the hill, where you can enroll your kids if you think they’d be interested for a few weeks/month. It’s totally in Spanish. Our daughter (6 at the time) went for a month and enjoyed it, plus improved her Spanish a lot.
    Have fun!
Oh, I wrote a blog post about teaching there, and the school, if you’re at all interested:

    1. How great! Looks like you are having a wonderful time on the road. Thanks for the info on schools around the lake, but we were only there for 10 days, and sort of just unwinding before heading back home. It felt good to just explore, enjoy and be present. If we are back another time will definitely do something like you did. Thanks, Mary.

  2. Wow, what a great place, simply GORGEOUS! You guys are going to have a great time exploring there. Miss you?Stay safe
