No Walk

This morning we took advantage of the calm to head in to town. La Cruz is a nice little place, though at eleven o’clock in the morning, there isn’t a whole lot happening. We found a restaurant open and serving breakfast, got Ouest a heaping plate of french toast and spent an hour perusing the book exchange. It’s getting harder and harder these days for us Luddites without a Kindle to find a book so any opportunity is greatly appreciated. We wandered around until about one, had a couple of beers and then headed back to the boat for nap time.

The wind had by now picked up to over twenty knots making for a tricky wet dinghy ride back to the boat which was bouncing up and down like an unhappy bull in a rodeo. We really can’t fathom why anybody likes this anchorage. We’ve had a lot of friends stay here and not one of them talked badly about the place so we can only assume that the weather we’re getting is unusual somehow. Because right now this anchorage easily ranks in our top five worst list. Not one person is outside on their boat, nobody is going to and from shore, every boat is bouncing wildly and swinging from side to side, it’s just plain ugly. Yet fifty of us are anchored here. It makes no sense. We’re moving on tomorrow.

The rest of the afternoon was taken up with play time, dinner time, bath time, and bed time. At about four o’clock Ouest announced, “Walk!” As in she was ready to take a walk. At the dock she probably said this twenty times a day. Five minutes after she woke up, “Walk.” The hottest part of the afternoon, “Walk.” Doesn’t matter, she likes to just go out and walk around. Usually with Molly the doll and a stroller or wagon to push around. Anyway, “Walk,” doesn’t work so well on the boat, especially in this anchorage.
