Oak Creek

Finished off our days in Sedona quietly around the house. My brother flew back to Florida, and we played checkers, read, shot the BB gun, and repeatedly fired up the barbeque.

We did get out one more afternoon, visiting this gem of a place. Crescent Moon Picnic Area along Oak Creek. They limit the number of cars that can park there so it wasn’t overcrowded. We were able to wander along the maze of different trails along the creek until we found a spot we liked with nobody else around. The water was running fast and cool, which felt amazing, and the kids would have kept busy for days just swimming and building rock dams.

Also had this big guy go slithering by.

Another sunset over the hills and then it was time to say goodbye to Grammy, for now. We’re off for the great white north—Minnesota.

Of course it rains. A blessing this year.

  3. Holy cow…that was one big rattlesnake! Arizona is surprisingly green as I heard the monsoon season has been very wet this year. Safe travels to you all.

  4. Have been cruising full time on our trawler since july 2019 and look forward to hearing about your experiences. Cheers!

  5. Glad you and the family are safe. We lived in Arizona for 4 years, following our new grand daughter.
I was surprised to find out how many people die in Az during Monsoon season. A harmless little creek will flood very quickly from the torrents of water that come down. Whole families have been washed away, sometimes never found as their bodies are hidden by silt. We visited a popular little swimming hole while off roading one year. The next week an entire family was wiped out in that very place. Wakes a person up 🙂

    1. They really do have some crazy, extreme weather during this time of year. Sitting back and watching those rain clouds come in every afternoon, and seeing all the hikers heading up some red rock cliffs…
