Out and About

Out and about the past couple of days. We went for an evening stroll down to the fishermen’s end of the beach, watched a big group of kids play baseball in the sand and our kids poke around in the boats and sand for treasure. Ouest seems certain that any piece of plastic that is colored is a treasure. “Can I bring this home with us?” she asks over and over again as each piece of flotsam finds its way into her backpack.

It’s the neighborhood walk, and this end of the miles long beach, is the reason I love Mazatlan.

This morning we headed over to the Bosque de la Ciudad, the city park, for some energy wasting. The kids dig this place, and I can’t blame them. There is a ton of dangerous crap to play on spread out over about a quarter mile of parkland.

Without getting all “my kid is amazing” on us here, I do have to say that Lowe is one crazy good little bike and scooter rider. The scooter he is pretty well insane on. He’s every bit as good as Ouest, if not better, on that thing. And the bike, well, the moment he was tall enough to touch his toes to the ground he was riding it. He’s just totally natural on it. I’m going to buy him a skateboard next.

Not to be outdone, Ouest is shredding these pink roller skates. Plus she totally looks like she belongs on an 80s Roller Derby team.

  1. Having had the unfortunate experience of some time in a traumatic brain injury rehabilitation hospital, I would recommend against a skateboard. Most of my fellow patients were boys 14-25. Skateboards were a common theme.

    1. Thank you. I consider that a great compliment. Just the other day I was looking at our kids while they played—they were both covered in dirt smudges, wearing ill-fitting heavily-stained clothes, and I said to Ali, “I’m so glad our kids look like this instead of a GAP commercial. This is what we looked like when we were kids.”
