Bum Hikers

Salt Pond Bay was a beautiful spot on the lightly trafficked south coast of St. John. Right off the boat was the Ram Head hike, easily our favorite on the island.

Turks Head Cactus were a favorite topic of conversation all along the hike, with everyone seeing something different in each one, sort of like when you lay on the ground looking up at the clouds.

  1. Glad you made it to Ram Head! If you’re still in Salt Pond Bay, walk past the actual salt pond on the trail that takes you to Drunk Bay. Very rocky, everyone makes a figure or writes words using the coral, shells, rocks, vegetation that have been washed ashore. Then post a pic. Happy hiking!

    1. Ram Head was the perfect mix hike (salt pond, beach, trees, and cactus hill) – not just straight up, but across as well. Would have spent a few days in the bay, but it had terrible internet – which is fine if we know about it but we had planned work and school that day, so had to move on after the hike and swim.

  2. man. are you guys really that perfect? I want to know, for my own health how hard it is, if at all, to be 24/7 with everyone on a boat?

    1. Hey James, definitely not perfect – BUT we have perfected living small together. Pat and I have been doing this since 2003 and since we didn’t change our ways even after having kids – they don’t know any other way than this. Even when given the room to stretch out, we will all be in the same room together. When things are kept this simple, there really isn’t much to fight about.
