See Ya Sister

We’re moving into the best time of year in San Miguel. The sunsets seem to stretch out longer, and many of the dormant trees will begin to pop. In a couple more weeks this view will be filled with the purple of the jacarandas.

Early one morning Aunt Toni hopped on the shuttle to the airport to return to the majesty of a mid-winter storm in Minnesota. It was fun having a housemate, and we’re gonna miss her.

Garbage gets picked up three times a week here for free (occasional tips). The truck goes past ringing a bell, then circles back around and picks up bags from in front of your house. It’s generally a nice time to go outside and say hi to all your neighbors. I’ve never figured out why a couple places around town get piles like this set out at odd times, leading to signs being put up asking people not to do it.

My headlight went out on the bike and I couldn’t find the problem. Bulb worked, but somewhere along the line something was wrong with the wiring. I spent about an hour on it before deciding to just let someone else deal with it. This motorcycle mechanic is near the kids’ school. He and his helper sit out on the sidewalk fixing motorcycles all day, so I dropped mine off there. Asked him to change the oil, check the brakes, replace a missing foot peg, and get my headlight working again.

I went back a few hours later, everything was done, and when I asked how much he said 150 pesos. Eight bucks. I will never understand the economics of these places. I’d have expected to pay that much just for the foot peg. Or just for the oil itself. There’s no way he cleared even a dollar of profit on that.

Whoops. Dogs are stupid. You can tell that Ali was hot on her heels though. Those prints just disappear.

  2. Love the poster, but I’m confused. Is this just a joke, or are they making a movie, maybe
with an AI deep-fake version of DJT in the ring with Santo?

    1. I thought it was just a promotional poster for America’s 250th anniversary fights on the front lawn of the White House.

  3. Looks like a beautiful country, and so well run. Its amazes me why any resident would want to come to the US illegally and risk being deported by our government. Its really informative to know what its really like in Mexico. Compared to what you see and hear in the states. Thanks for all your posts. Been following since the beginning.
