Surf and Mutts

The waves have been all over the place lately. Too big and sloppy one day, too small the next. We still manage to catch some on the big days, but it’s a ton more work for me pushing Ouest out through the constant rush of white water and the rips. But the small days present their own problems too, with about a hundred times more people in the water. It’s Christmas vacation and there are a ton of families down from the States and Canada, as well as at least a couple of thousand Mexican tourists in town from the mountains for the holidays.

Here Ouest is trying to hang ten, slowly scooching forward towards the front of the board. She hasn’t gotten there yet, but she thinks it’s pretty funny when she tries.

Lowe is slowly getting the stoke. When he gets rolled it’s all over for the day, but he’s getting there.

It’s too bad my kids are so risk averse.

Animals, animals, everywhere animals. I don’t even want to add up how much money we’ve spent on dogs and cats in the past month or two.

Don’t be fooled. This is not Brownie, this is Brownie Two. There is a three, a four, and a five. As well as a Walt (another girl dog), a Blackie, and who knows which others I’m forgetting right now.

Coconuts and machetes are lying around everywhere. I’m constantly pulling the machete out of the coco tree by our bus and relocating it from knee height to above the head height—my parental instincts kicking in. Yes, I do have parental instincts.

Other kids sit at the table with an iPhone. Our kids try to roll a steel ball through a maze and into a hole. Kickin’ it old school.

  1. I was at a restaurant the other night and the table next to us had two couples with a total of four kids 6 and under. All four kids were silently staring at their parent’s Iphones. It was kind of sad. When I was a kid, it was an exciting day when our parents went out with another couple with kids because it meant new friends to laugh and hang out with. These kids weren’t even acknowledging each other.
