Ontario… Oregon

We’re getting on near the two week mark and the pace has certainly begun to pick up. Two weeks is enough time in hotel rooms. We’re ready to get to Grammy’s and eat some home cooking again. At least Ali and I are. The kids haven’t said a word. They sit in the back seat and ask for snacks five hundred times per day, but never complain. When we get to the hotel they immediately set up the room like a train station or a mail room and start playing. And they sleep like champs night after night. They really are incredible travelers.

We stopped off in the tiny town of American Falls. Once upon a time there were waterfalls here, but now it’s all dammed up. We ended up spending hours in this town, though, mainly because we hit a playground on the way in, and then another on the way out.

This is Shoshone Falls in Twin Falls. It’s billed as the “Niagara Falls of the West.” Hmmmm. Seems they decided to shut off Niagara and send all the water to irrigate farms and fill up reservoirs instead. Somebody at least left a garden hose running.

We got to celebrate Mexico’s Independence Day with a small festival in the center of town. The Mexicans back home would not have been real proud.

This morning we crossed over the Perrine Bridge, where BASE jumping is legal. And we just happened to show up as six jumpers were taking flight. Looks fun. Ouest says she wants to do that. Big surprise.

We boogied up the highway to Ontario, Oregon, where we were able to meet up with some friends who had just moved over from Portland. We met at a park where small town rules stipulated we smuggle our beers in via red plastic cups. We all had a good time catching up—especially the girls.

  1. There is one EXACTLY like that in the park across the street from my house. Except that it is covered in chipped blue and red paint. It is quite the draw for kids and adults.
