Ouest and I found a nearby National Trust site with some walking paths through the countryside and headed over there while everyone else was back home getting ready for a travel day.

We had a nice walk together, talked to some cows and kicked some dirt.

We left Burford and headed out towards Bath, with a half dozen or so old market towns mapped out along the drive. Stow-on-the-Wold was worthy of a stop and a short walk through town.

We were strolling around St. Edward’s Church and stopped for a picture at this lovely spot. We learned that these are in fact a pair of famous yew trees planted about three hundred years ago that eventually fused themselves to the 800 year old stone framing the doorway. Local lore claims that J.R.R. Tolkien modeled the Doors of Durin in The Lord of the Rings on this spot. True or not, it makes for a fun little story.

Anywhere else but England you’d think Google had led you right onto somebody’s driveway. Nope, just your everyday country lane.

Bibury, Gloucestershire. Grammy fell in love with this ridiculously scenic place.

Arlington Row, a fourteenth century row of stone cottages along the River Coln.

We had a nice lunch in Bibury and then continued on to Bath.

Our AirBnB was in a row of stone houses from the 1700s called The Paragon. Jane Austen famously lived there for a time with her aunt and uncle. High society living at its best back in the day.

We got in a quick walk around town before calling it a night. There are so many massive stone buildings. It’s a nice walkable town with plenty to see and do.
