It’s Potty Time

Lowe is on the home stretch in the potty-training game and I can’t tell you how excited that makes both of us. The thought of cruising without diapers is something we almost dared not think about. And now here we are. Granted, we’ll still have night-time nappies for a while yet, but that’s nothing. The best thing about Lowe getting potty-trained is that now I also get cheered on when using the toilet. Makes me feel like a solid contributing member of the team.

Here we are setting up for a “party” in the courtyard. Ouest likes having parties, though the term seems to be very loosely applied. Having a party often means nothing more than taping a piece of string to the wall. Woohoo!

Ouest is really getting into photography—or “taking pictures.” As we walk down the streets these days she constantly sees things and says, “Take a picture of that.” If I don’t have the camera along she admonishes me. I need to bring the camera, and I need to take a picture of that thing next time we go out.

I’ve been trying to do better about bringing the small camera which she has quickly learned how to use—switching easily from photo, to video, to review. Today we were out walking around and stopped to take a picture of this booth selling religious stuff in front of the cathedral. She snapped off a couple of well framed and focused shots, including the one below.

Molly the doll has been with us now for about two years. She’s been swimming in the ocean, had her face painted, and been run over by a bike, but it doesn’t slow her down. These days she doesn’t come outside much preferring instead to sleep with Ouest at night. This doll is the only thing that Ouest has ever really attached herself to for more than a few days. Occasionally she’ll call out at night, and when we go into her room the only thing she’ll say is, “Where’s Molly?” We run our hands around the bed in the dark until we come up with her, stick her back against Ouest’s chest, and listen for the soft, “Thank you.”

Lowe has yet to find this sort of item for himself. I have a feeling when he does it won’t be a doll, but instead will be a truck.

  1. Naia is out of dipes too and I am doing the happy dance. That was one of the items on our pre-full time cruising again check list. yay! Those plastic headed soft dollies are the best. We picked up ours at a thrift shop, Naia named her Grandpa Bob. S/he also goes everywhere.

  2. or better yet this…amazon.com/Camper-Van-Childs-Play-Tent-blue/dp/B008R7PXGO/ref=pd_sim_sbs_t_1/186-1752402-1440362

  3. About VWs, I saw a news piece that no longer will VW vans be manufactured. So they are now becoming collectors’ items. Do you guys still have yours?

    1. That’s our Canon D10. We’re not big fans of it, which is why we let her use it. We told her we would look at getting her her own camera for her birthday and she eagerly replied, “A real camera?” She’s funny, she already wants to upgrade to a DSLR. 🙂
