Parks and Recreation

So by now you’ve realized that we finally updated our website. When we started this back in 2003 there were no blogs, or at least they were still in their infancy and we didn’t know about them. So I taught myself one night how to use Frontpage 2003 and built the most rudimentary site imaginable. How many of you remember this?

I eventually taught myself Dreamweaver and got a little better, but keeping up with everything technologically has been a huge time suck. So we’ve made the switch over to a self-hosted WordPress blog and are pretty happy with the results. We’ve now got comments (I know, we’re so 2005), e-mail updates, and lo and behold we’ve even got a functioning RSS feed. Will wonders never cease? Anyway, we’re still working on cleaning up some links, blah, blah, blah, but we hope you all like it, and feel free to let us know if you see anything that needs fixing.

Today we went to what is probably a little known gem amongst the tourists with kids crowd here in Mazatlan, the Bosque de la Ciudad. The city park, just a couple of blocks back from the malecon it stretches on seemingly forever and is wonderful in all of its unsafe for small children beauty. It’s one of the things I love most about Mexico; they don’t go tearing old playground equipment out of the ground because one child somewhere lost a finger in a pinching roller slide. No sir, playgrounds here will remain until the earth reclaims them herself. Because of this it is easy to see yourself in your children; you can place yourself right back to the day when you were in this type of swing or were climbing a rickety ladder three stories to go down a slide with your chest in knots. This sort of place makes me happy.

  1. I been in love with your kids since I first atarted reading…before Lowe……gorgeous photos every time. I especially love your Mom’s beautiful pink pleated top in this series…….LOL

  2. I too love the kite flying picture. Actually, the first thing I do each year when I get to the cottage, is find a new kite.
I really like the new look of the site, and yes, I do remember that first webpage.
I am so happy for you guys and I hope you have a great sailing season.
    Magic

  3. Been reading youse guys since you were mentioned at RV.net for some reason and you were about 1/2 way around the world but before NewZealand (I think?) where you found teh hull issues. We too have spent a good amount of time in Mazatlan, back when we still were recorriendo el pais and my youngest was 3 then and your Quest makes me remember her in those days. One of these days i’ll restore my old blog…

    LOVE the last photo!

  4. Love the new site. Very professional. Always amazed at your ability to adapt and keep up. Kids are beautiful, and how lucky you and your family members are to be able to see each other often–and in such lovely venues. Keep on! Luv, Lorraine

  5. Kuwait parks are similar to the pictures here, the equipment is rusty and degraded, BUT, you have to work with what you have, the kids love it anyway. I wish they created kids parks with more of the plastic materials, sure it fades, but it will exist LONG after we’re gone and seems safer. Kite flying is also a big event in Kuwait, people lined up on the beach with enormous kites. I love your mom sitting in her chair just casually holding on to it……hope you had a good Christmas celebrating with family as I did….
