Perfect Bay

I don’t know what is going on the past couple of days, but we just can not seem to get the weather we’ve been expecting. We woke up to calm this morning, motored out in four knots, rounded the point into twelve knots, continued barreling headlong into twenty knots, and finally decided that was enough of that and veered off into Isla San Francisco.

Turns out I’m glad we did. It was a beautiful day, and this bay really is pretty spectacular. It’s so perfect that you can’t believe nature made it this way with no thought in mind to sheltering passing yachts. Ouest and I got the first shore excursion of the day, hiked up a hill for a snack and some nice photo ops, then made our way back down to the navigation light out on the point which she declared her new home. This is her thing lately. She turns everything into her home. On hikes she finds big rocks or small caves to call home. Sometimes just a shady tree will do. And once inside her new home she goes right into make-believe mode and creates a game out of thin air.

Later, when the whole gang went ashore the first thing we had to do was take Mama and Lowe out to her home. She then proceeded to use clam shells as plates with crushed coral as the dinner. She ate it all with some weird hollowed out bone she found. We eventually dragged her away from that game and back to the beach where poor Lowe finally had a place to be set down to do some exploring of his own. The boy is in his element on the beach these days. Just getting in the dinghy elicits squeals of anticipation. Ouest is a natural on the beach too. Again, she is in to the make-believe stuff and I’m loving it. She sits on the sand, surrounds herself with buckets, plastic tea cups, tin pots and pans, spoons, and whatever else she has convinced us to drag along, and drifts off into her own little world of stirring, mixing, and cooking seashells, sand, and saltwater.

I think it’s safe to say that we won’t be trusting Ouest to take care of Lowe for a few more years.
