Settling In

It’s that time of year again—hurricane season—a time for us to accomplish to-do-list tasks that have been studiously avoided the past six months or so. That goes for the kids as well as us adults. Time to go through the knick-knacks, books, and “collections” to decide what will live to spend another year with us. Somehow it seems to me that Lowe never has as much stuff to begin with, despite the fact that Ouest is so good at purging. She always finishes these clean-up days with a bag full of stuff headed for the garbage. I must say these two are amazing minimalists, and I love the fact that like us they tend not to become attached to things.

Despite the total absence of shade, the big grassy park at the forts is always a nice place to hang out, thanks to the ever present trade winds blowing past.

Reader Girl…

…and Imagination Boy. Back and forth he’ll go, and all we hear are explosion noises as he goes by.

Scuffing and varnishing.

The kids discovered this poor guy stuck in the fence. He didn’t have much life left in him as I picked him up to try and help him through. Clearly that wasn’t going to work, so we went back to the boat, grabbed the wire snips, and set him free by cutting up the fence. The marina probably wouldn’t appreciate our efforts, but the kids and the iguana were sure happy.

  1. We have had the same issues with rabbits stuck in our fence☹️ Wish they would see the hole from previous rabbits?

    1. Good idea. O. and L. mostly just have old pictures they drew or kept for one reason or another. The trinkets stay as they are usually from a special spot, which we eventually send back to our storage for their future memories.

  2. Awww, that poor iguana. Thank you for your helping efforts, and perhaps he’ll recover. Was probably severely dehydrated. Love the photos of the kids. They are such good kids! What is Ouest reading these days?

    1. The iguana was in good shape, I’m sure he is fine (unless he is stuck again now). The kids always peek around the fence now when we are heading out. Ouest is reading the original Baby Sitters Club series now. Staying up way too late… 🙂

  3. Hey, thanks for rescuing the Iguana. They probably dream of a time before people and fences, when I all they had to worry about was falling thing and birds.

  4. I never knew iguanas could look humiliated, but that poor guy really does look like he’s embarrassed. :-/

You did a good thing rescuing him.
