Seattle Tourists

I’ve said it a million times, but it’s true, that when you live this wandering lifestyle the world gets smaller. Case in point, the other day we got to meet up with our friends from Mali Mish who we last saw in Santa Barbara about a year ago. We also got to meet some other fellow traveling blogger friends in person for the first time. This meet-up took place in the luxurious surroundings of the Beaverton Elks Lodge. You can see that nobody was too put off by the fact that it was actually just an overgrown parking lot. Lots of kids, lots of fun.

We drove up to Seattle to spend the day doing all the touristy things we could cram in.

That 911 looks good, but my 356 looks better.

The troll under the Fremont Bridge. Comes complete with an actual VW bug.

Pretty sweet little park just below the Space Needle.

While we were at the park we watched Air Force One come flying in to the city. Half an hour later, from the top of the Needle we got to watch the President bring traffic to a halt driving through downtown. When you see it in action it all starts to seem like a bit much just so he can come raise money.

The kids got to honk the monorail’s horn, so their day was pretty much awesome.

Not many people know about this place, but down by the waterfront there is a market. It’s a well kept secret.

No, actually the place is usually a zoo, but we got there around five and they were starting to shut down for the night, which was perfect for us because the crowds were gone.

The Seattle Gum Wall. With the way things are these days I find it kind of amazing that this sort of weirdness is permitted to exist—that some health board hasn’t swooped in to save us all from filthy gum disease.

After the kids were in bed I went out for a little stroll around the neighborhood.

Interesting fact I learned today—when the Space Needle was built in 1962 it was the tallest building west of the Mississippi. Today it is the seventh tallest in Seattle alone.

  1. i never tire of reading about your life on the go and seeing your growing family. They are getting so big! You are making such wonderful memories. Thanks for your inspiration in helping us venture off to see more of the world. We started cruising Aug 2014 and it has been great! Our next adventure will most likely be an RV. (Unfortunately we don’t have a Porsche 🙂 )

  2. Love the gathering of the clans!! Like pulling into an anchorage and all your buddies are there!! 😀

  3. Stumbled on that same play ground a couple weeks ago, it was almost the best part of trip! Been following your story for a couple years now, love the posts.

  4. My town too…..Va. Mason Hospital……A long time ago…The Smith Tower was the tallest West of the Miss.
    What’s with the bumbershoot?

  5. You nailed it. Any 356 makes a new 911 pale in comparison. Wish I had never, ever sold my ’67 912 Targa SRW.
