Fair Season

You can hardly live in Portland and not have a nose ring, so Ouest made a couple out of paper clips and got Grammy in on the act.

Ouest has been taking guitar lessons while we’ve been out here. Amazing what a difference a good teacher makes. We tried this out in Florida and the guy was a total bust. This time she’s having a great experience, and it shows in her playing—despite what her face might say in this picture.

We’ve been on the hunt for a nice old typewriter for a while. Finally found a mint Royal Quiet De Luxe. Now we’re receiving a lot of cryptic ransom-style notes.

It’s fair season in the Pacific Northwest, and we can’t seem to resist. Rides, fair food, beer, live music, and sunshine—what’s not to love?

Somehow I always end up on stage.

Ouest says this is what she’s going to do when she grows up. And while I admit, there is a definite dearth of strong girls taking part, I’m not super eager to encourage this one.

Despite the fun we’ve had, both kids have said in the last few days that they are ready to get back on the boat. Hurricane season sucks. At least this year we’ve made it through the first few weeks unscathed. We’ll be back to normal life before we know it.

  1. in your photography it shows…that your young’uns are so used to being photographed, they are “naturals”! ha having a camera in hand and shooting them in play produces some seriously good pics !!! thank you again for the visual stories.
Man I would like to go back and raise mine all over again! It was soooo much fun.
    Don’t blink, enjoy the ride.
    Blessings to you and yours,

  2. I love the lemon too!
While I think women should have the career of choice, I hope Ouest decides against Evel Knievel!

  3. It is 94 degress with 111 degree humiture in my backyard today. The kids may not enjoy the Florida weather we are having this summer. It is too hot to enjoy the pool until after sunset.

  4. In this age of computers, one of the best things our boys learnt was to touch type with 10 fingers. They had lessons at school for a few months, but I am sure there are free on line ones too.

  5. Keep practicing the guitar Quest! I look forward to pickin’ a tune or two with you, should we meet up again.
