Seattle Tourists

We never come to Portland without a trip to Seattle. This time a couple of our plans fell apart, but we headed up anyway, and spent a day being full-on tourists. First, a stop at Kerry Park, overlooking the city. Broke out the selfie-stick for this one.

That backstop. When I was a kid I would have spent a thousand hours playing neighborhood ball right there. I thought it was pretty awesome that baseball diamond survived in a neighborhood that has likely seen property values go up about a million percent in the last decade.

Honestly, you couldn’t pay me to own a new car. I won’t speak for Ali on that one, but for me, a lack of non-vintage metal curves is a non-starter.

Somehow, no matter where we are going in Seattle, we always end up at the stop light in front of the Elephant Super Car Wash. It’s like a Route 66 sign transplanted in the most unlikely of places.

Volunteer Park, where I’m told I last spent time while in the womb.

Ouest and Lowe don’t get nearly enough time in the water when we’re with family. They’ll take a knee deep wading pool and make it fun.

The Great Wheel. Not just a ferris wheel, but a great wheel.

If we’re going to go full-on tourist, I may as well bust out the selfie-stick again.

Got to spend some time with our friends from Drive Nacho. It was fun to see others living the challenges that we had to face just a few short years ago. Toddler trying to use the shore power cord as a swing? Ten times in a row? Been there.

If I lived in Seattle I wouldn’t complain a bit about calling Shilshole Marina home. It smelled just like you would expect a cold water Pacific Northwest marina to smell like. Is that a weird sentence? Maybe not everyone knows what that should smell like. Hope very much that we are able to anchor with these guys in tropical waters somewhere down the line.

Road Trip Seattle is in the bag—pointed south again.

  1. Hey Pat – Have you discovered the Lincoln Towing Company’s sign at their main lot? If you like the Elephant Car Wash sign, you’ll love it too.
